Challenge

Deposited first-year students needed timely, accurate answers about university resources, but a small support team couldn't provide consistent 24/7 coverage during the high-volume pre-enrollment window. FERPA compliance and information accuracy were non-negotiable.

Solution

We built Bulldog AI, an inbound voice agent serving deposited first-year students. It answers FAQs, surfaces verified university resources via SMS and email, and supports live call transfer to human staff on the same call when a student needs deeper help. The agent pulls only from approved university web sources, retains no student records, and operates fully within FERPA compliance.

Outcome

Bulldog AI served a population of 100+ deposited first-year students and successfully handled 49 calls in the first two weeks of launch. NPS scores from both stakeholders and the student population came back positive. Because the agent operated entirely off the university's approved web content, there was no risk of hallucinated information about deadlines, financial aid policies, or student services.

When a question went beyond the agent's source material, the live-transfer flow kept the human in the loop without forcing students to start a new conversation. Coverage held steady through evenings and weekends, the windows where the small support team had previously struggled to keep up, and Redlands now has a deployment pattern they can extend to new student populations and inquiry types as the program grows.
